Technical Project Designer - Life Sciences and Workplace Design
Purpose of Job: Life Sciences and Workplace design with a solid knowledge base of laboratory design and multidisciplinary co-ordination.
Methodical and process driven with the ability to deliver detailed and complex project design within budget and to time.
Must have the skill set to be resourced to projects as an autonomous reliable fee earning team member.
Main Responsibilities:

  • Work in the Design studio on projects.
  • Work directly with the client, contractor and design team with agility and adaptability.
  • Use the RIBA Plan of work and deliver up to project completion.
  • Use strong schematic and technical design skills with a solid understanding of detail design in all project work.
  • Undertake complex technical drawings, coordinating with other technical disciplines.
  • Produce high quality, project winning bid design documentation and presentations.
  • Liaise with landlord design teams as necessary.
  • Be the main point of contact for Clients from the Design side of the project and our clients representative in any external Design Team Meetings, ensuring key points are communicated back to the businesses an efficient and clear manner.
  • Ensure all standard of finishes, fittings and materials is specified which are within project budget constraints
  • Ensure all coordination work between parties is carried out correctly, in our clients best interests, and within project deadlines and costs
  • Work within a team to produce detailed 2D and 3D design drawings and concept sketches, using software
  • Demonstrate and use strong project co-ordination and ability to assist with managing resource and people effectively.
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered in accordance with our cleints company guidelines.
  • Meet personal targets and weekly project deadlines
  • Check and ensure software are always up to date
  • Record in detail time spent on each project activity
  • Produce and pitch client presentations and attend client meetings as required.
  • Mentor and coach others in the tea
  • Line manage Junior Designer(s) if required
  • Find solutions and achieve results to meet client brief and expectations.

Skills and Experience:

  • Degree level qualification in Architecture, Interior Design, or related discipline
  • 8 years technical design experience with a strong portfolio of work that demonstrates breadth of expertise across a range of projects, including life sciences. * Minimum 3 years specific laboratory Design project experience.
  • Laboratory design and fit out experience
  • Proven ability to lead on and manage projects.
  • Proven ability to consistently contribute to the successful delivery of complex, small, medium, and large-scale projects
  • Highly computer literate and fluent in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Fluency in Adobe Suite applications such as Photoshop and InDesign Technical knowledge in AutoCAD and SketchUp * Ability to work well within a team.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and to tight deadlines and able to cope with change e.g. To brief, programme or role.
