About the Exhibition:

“A Place to Draw” is an exhibition of hand drawings by Architect, Anna Gibb. Showcased throughout the month of June at Adrem’s Dreamspace Gallery, the exhibition intends to enthral audience with excitement from their own experience of the city they love.

With architectural sketches from Glasgow, Florence to London, Anna interprets her own experience of each place and draws out the history and culture of each city and how it is reflected on her. Amalgamating various buildings, references and stories, these cityscapes are visions of her own invention. Composed together with a series of smaller daily sketches called “28 drawings later”, this exhibition aims to encourage people to draw their own perspective on London or the city they live in.

For the display of smaller works in the exhibition, Anna has partnered with HOLOThey have created a series of lightweight frames tailored for the exhibition, and are the latest in a series of foldable paper frames being developed by Holo. The 2 part frames are constructed entirely from paper and folder together with no need for nails. and at the at the end of their life can simply be recycled or composted.

Communities:

Cities can be daunting. The sense of insignificance, in the bustling energy of a city, can be isolating. Anna embraces this and reinterprets it through her unique style of drawing. The drawings are a reflection of her view of a place, often transcending both history and geography. Drawings can become a personal reflection of your surroundings, a way of understanding the world around you. This exhibition hopes to inspire visitors to find new ways of understanding their surroundings.

So what does London look like to you? “A Place To Draw” will offer visitors the opportunity to draw their own interpretation of the city in which they live, how it makes them feel, and how they respond to the community around them.

About the Artist:

Anna, an architect by day, loves to draw by hand. Since developing a passion for drawing 8 years ago, Anna has lived in Aberdeen, Florence, Melbourne, Glasgow, and in London for the past year. Wherever she is, she uses drawing to help her understand a place. Her highly detailed, idiosyncratic urban landscapes are inspired by a love of architecture, context and history.

Anna previously exhibited throughout Scotland, Madrid, London, Hong Kong, and within the British Pavilion at the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale.

Part of the London Festival of Architecture 2016.

London Festival of Architecture runs from 1 – 30 June. www.londonfestivalofarchitecture.org
